On 14 July 2026, China’s Communist Party announced the expulsion of Ma Xingrui, one of the most senior civilian officials to fall in President Xi Jinping’s current anti-corruption campaign. Ma was not an ordinary provincial cadre. He was a member of the 20th Central Committee Politburo, the elite 24-seat body elected in October 2022. He had previously led China’s flagship aerospace conglomerate, helped command major lunar, crewed-space and next-generation launch-vehicle programmes, served as a vice minister responsible for industry and national strategic technology, governed Guangdong, led Shenzhen and then became Party Secretary of Xinjiang. His career moved through some of the most strategically important institutions in the Chinese state.
