Nine members of the opposition, including former Prime Minister Succès Masra, have been pardoned by President Mahamat Idriss Déby, in line with his commitments. The decision had been anticipated for several days, as Chad has just celebrated the 66 th anniversary of its independence. Former Prime Minister Succès Masra ( pictured above ), along with eight other opposition party leaders, was pardoned by President Mahamat Idriss Déby on 14 August.
